FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – SUNY Old Westbury softball (0-10, 0-10 Skyline) hosted a Skyline Conference doubleheader against the Manhattanville College Valiants (12-3, 8-3 Skyline) but fell 11-0 in five innings in both games.
Game 1 (5 Inn.): Manhattanville 11, Old Westbury 0
In the second inning, the Valiants compiled eight runs off of Panther starter
Christina Hassett (L, 0-9: 5 IP, CG, 17 H, 11 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, K) that featured nine singles and the scoring was capped off on a two-RBI double hit down the right field line by Sarah Harker (3-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 R).
After Manhattanville added another run in the top of the third frame, Isela Casillas (2-for-4, 4 RBI, R) slapped a two-run single through the right side that scored Brooke Franson (3-for-3, 3 R) and Harker to give them an 11-run cushion (11-0).
In the home half of the fourth the Panthers registered their first hit of the game as
Mallory Moretti knocked a lead-off single off of Valiant starter Charli Shinstine (W, 4-3: 5 IP, CG, H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 12 K). Shinstine was stellar in the circle as that would be the only hit she allowed on the day. She also registered a dozen strikeouts in a complete game to secure the 11-0 win for the Valiants.
Game 2 (5 Inn.): Manhattanville 11, Old Westbury 0
In the opening inning, the Valiants jumped in the lead as Jayleen Torres (4-for-4, 3 RBI, 3 R) and Jaclyn DeLuca knocked RBI doubles, respectively, off of Panther starter
Lillian Chiauzzi (L, 0-1: 5 IP, CG, 16 H, 11 R, 11 ER, 3 BB, 0 K) to give the visitors a 2-0 edge.
After Manhattanville tacked on a run in the third inning, they scored four runs in the fourth as Casillas (3-for-4, 3 R, 2 RBI) and Abby Tanuma (2-for-2, 2 RBI, R) hit RBI singles while Torres struck again as she smacked a two-run triple to right center field.
In the home half of the fourth, the Panthers recorded their lone hit of the game which was a single by Hassett off of Valiant starter Kylie Pester (W, 3-0: 5 IP, CG, H, 0 R, 0 ER, BB, 9 K).
Manhattanville would later put together four more runs in the fifth inning to settle the 11-0 decision.
