Men's Basketball Drops Battle at Sarah Lawrence

The Old Westbury men's basketball team dropped a conference matchup at Sarah Lawrence on Sunday afternoon, moving to 4-6 in Skyline play.

Zachary Cummings led the scoring for the Panthers with an impressive line of 27 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Cummings shot 53% from the field and a perfect 9-9 from the free-throw line. Jonathan Jamieson shot 61.5% (8-13) from the field and totaled 20 points. Charles Wingate contributed 19 points along with seven rebounds and four assists.

Three Gryphons also scored double-digit points in today's contest. Liam Barry led the scoring for Sarah Lawrence, narrowly missing a double-double with 29 points (12-24 FG) and nine assists. Xiyuan Zhang scored 22 points and Justin Bailey had a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Sarah Lawrence outrebounded Old Westbury 52-38, including 16 offensive rebounds good for 12 second chance points. 

The Gryphons were off to a hot start and opened the game with a 22-7 scoring run through the first eight minutes. They held their largest lead of the game 32-14 with 7:44 remaining in the first half. After the Gryphons layup at the 7:44 mark, the Panthers then went on a 21-2 scoring run to erase the deficit and were up by one point at the half, 35-34.

The teams battled through a tight second half that came down to the final minute. Zachary Cummings tied the score 80-80 with a jumper with 16 seconds remaining in the game. Amos Grey scored the winning layup for the Gryphons with six seconds left in the game, as as a missed half-court shot at the buzzer from Old Westbury sealed the win for Sarah Lawrence.

Farmingdale, N.Y. - As of Monday, December 20th, there will be no fan permitted at any Farmingdale State College home athletic contests until further notice. 

The following guidelines for visiting teams remain in place.

Statement Regarding Visiting Teams - Winter 2021-22

1. All tier 1 personnel teams must be vaccinated or following Skyline testing protocols.

2. All tier 1 personnel must wear masks indoors at all times regardless of your vaccination status, other than when practicing or competing. This includes on the bench during games.

3. Visiting teams will be provided a locker room; however, use of the showers before/after games is not permitted.

4. Visiting teams are not permitted to eat in Nold Hall.
