The Old Westbury women's basketball team lost a non-conference contest against Five Towns College on Tuesday evening by a score of 57-53.
Three double-doubles from the Panthers wasn't enough to hold off the Sound, as the Panthers also battled through foul trouble.
Melinda Harris and
Ja'nya Flash led the scoring with 13 points; Flash scored a double-double with 14 rebounds.
Kasiobi Okenwa and
Ashley Cattle each posted a double-double of their own with 12 points-14 rebounds, and 11 points-12 rebounds, respectively.
The game was a close matchup, as neither team held a lead larger than seven points. Old Westbury held the advantage in the paint with the height of Flash and Okenwa, as they outrebounded Five Towns 57-46 and scored 12 second chance points.
Ja'nya Flash fouled out with 7:21 remaining in the game and the Panthers up by two points. The Sound capitalized on the opportunity and went on a 13-4 scoring run through the next five minutes and held onto the lead for the remainder of the game.

SUNY Old Westbury remains in a Yellow Status through February 9, 2022. At this time, no spectators are permitted at Old Westbury games until February 10, 2022 when the college's engagement plan returns to a Green Status.Â

Statement Regarding Visiting Teams - Winter 2021-22
1. All tier 1 personnel teams must be vaccinated or following Skyline testing protocols.
2. All tier 1 personnel must wear masks indoors at all times regardless of your vaccination status, other than when practicing or competing. This includes on the bench during games.
3. Visiting teams will be provided a locker room; however, use of the showers before/after games is not permitted.
4. Visiting teams are not permitted to eat in Nold Hall.
