The Old Westbury men's basketball team fell short at St. Joseph's Long Island on Tuesday by a score of 70-63.
Charles Wingate led the scoring for the Panthers with 22 points, along with six assists, five rebounds, and five steals.
Nigel Carter added 16 points and five rebounds, while
Jonathan Jamieson contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. St. Joseph's held
Zachary Cummings, Old Westbury's leading scorer on the season, to just five points.
Spencer Malloy scored 22 points for the Golden Eagles. Jake Guadiello came off the bench for 16 points, and Ryan McNeely added 13. St. Joseph's scored a total of 33 points off the bench.
St. Joseph's went on a 15-0 scoring run in the first half starting at the 17:29 mark. The Golden Eagles carried the momentum into half time, leading 33-20 at the break. Old Westbury shot only 23.3% in the first half, compared to St. Joseph's 36.7%. Eleven turnovers in the second-half by the Golden Eagles helped Old Westbury crawl back into the game. Old Westbury trailed by just one point with three minutes left in the game, but were unable to regain the lead at any time.
Men's basketball will play the last regular season game on Saturday, February 19 at 1 PM against Farmingdale State College, and will await the results of the final week of Skyline Conference play to determine playoff chances. Fans are welcome to attend Saturday's game, and can be streamed live
