The Old Westbury team baseball moves to 4-12 overall, and 2-4 in the Skyline Conference with a pair of losses at Maritime on Sunday afternoon.
Game One: Old Westbury 0, Maritime 5
Justin Aviles started on the mound for Old Westbury and allowed just one earned run on five hits, while striking out 10 through five innings pitched. Two fielding errors by the Panthers defense allowed four unearned runs to cross the plate for Maritime.
An error at third base got the lead off runner on for Maritime in the bottom of the first. Three base hits in the inning for the Privateers scored two runs, both unearned. Logan Martinson (1-for-2, RBI, R) hit a solo home run in the second inning for the only earned run of the game. Maritime added two more in the fifth inning after an error and two walks loaded the bases, and Jaden Shea (1-for-3, 2 RBI) hit a two RBI single to right center.
Old Westbury scattered just three hits through the game from Jamal Ritter, Drew Robertson, and Jacob Ford, and left five runners on base.
Game Two: Old Westbury 1, Maritime 11
Eddie Guzman took the loss on the mound for Old Westbury in the second game of the doubleheader. Guzman pitched 4.2 innings, surrendering three hits with four strikeouts and four walks. Guzman allowed one earned run, and five unearned.
Joshua Cruz pitched 1.1 innings in relief for the Panthers, giving up three walks and two earned runs. Seven defensive errors for Old Westbury led to eight unearned runs for Maritime.Â
Maritime scored first in the second inning when a dropped fly ball in right field allowed two runs to cross the plate. The home team added another run off a sacrifice fly in the third inning and scored three more in the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, four consecutive errors in the field by Old Westbury let three more Privateers cross the plate. In the seventh inning, a hit by pitch, a walk, and back-to-back singles scored the final two runs for Maritime.
Jacob Ford went 2-for-3 for Old Westbury, and Oscar Fajardo went 1-for-3 with the lone RBI of the game. Jamal Ritter went 1-for-3 and continues on a 15-game hitting streak.
