The Old Westbury baseball team dropped two games in a Skyline Conference doubleheader against St. Joseph's Brooklyn.
Game One: Old Westbury 0, St. Joseph's Brooklyn 1
In a pitchers duel, the Panthers and Bears combined for just seven hits in the first game. Both teams were held scoreless through five innings, before the Bears crossed the plate first in the bottom of the sixth. A fielding error at shortshop allowed the leadoff batter to reach base. Two singles later in the inning allowed the lone run of the game to score, unearned. Old Westbury had two runners on in the top fo the seventh inning, but were unable to score.
Patrick Quinn pitched six innings for the Panthers, allowing one unearned run on four hits with six strikeouts.
Game Two: Old Westbury 4, St. Joseph's Brooklyn 7
Old Westbury scored first with run in the top of the first inning after Jacob Taormina (1-for-4, R) doubled down the left field line, and Oscar Fajardo (3-for-5, RBI) singled to center field for the RBI. St. Joseph's answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Lucas Collet reached on an error, and stole both second and third base. Kevin Reyes doubled to left field to score Collet, unearned, and tie the game.
The Panthers added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Jacob Ford (2-for-4, R) led off with a double to right field and Drew Robertson (1-for-4, R) followed with a single to put runners at the corners. Charlie Eisele (0-for-3, RBI) hit a sacrifice fly to score Ford. Dominic Felicetti (1-for-3) singled to left field, and Patrick Schriffen (1-for-2, RBI) singled up the middle to score Robertson to take the lead 3-1.
The Bears responsed once again with two runs in the home half of the inning to tie the game 3-3. St. Joseph's took the lead with a run in the fifth inning before adding one more in the seventh and two in the eighth to go ahead 7-3. In the top of the ninth inning, Jamal Ritter (1-for-5, R) doubled down the right field line and stole third base, before scoring on a groundout from Shaun Kaminski (1-for-5, RBI).
Eddie Guzman is credited with the loss on the mound for Old Westbury. He allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits through 5.1 innings. Justin Aviles pitched 2.2 innings of relief and allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits with three strikeouts.
