The Old Westbury baseball team finished the 2022 season with a pair of Skyline Conference wins against Farmingdale State College. The Panthers end the season with a 12-22 overall record, and 8-12 conference record.
Game One: Old Westbury 6, Farmingdale 2
Old Westbury scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. Jamal Ritter (0-for-3) walked in the first at bat of the game, and Jacob Taormina (1-for-3, 2 R) was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. Oscar Fajardo (0-for-2) walked later in the inning to load the bases and Charlie Eisele (1-for-3, 2 RBI) hit a 2 RBI single to center field. The Rams scored one run of their own in the bottom of the first inning after a double and a sacrifice fly.
Both teams went hitless through the second and third innings, before Old Westbury added to their lead with a run in the top of the fourth. Jacob Ford (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R) led off with a single up the middle, and Eisele put down a sacrifice bunt to move the runner into scoring position. Patrick Schriffen (2-for-3, RBI, R) singled to put Ford at third base, and Marcello Arrigo (1-for-3, RBI) singled to bring home the run. The Panthers added another run in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh. Schriffen hit a solo home run in the sixth, and Ford hit a 2 RBI home run in the seventh inning.Â
Patrick Quinn earned the win on the mound with two earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts; he finishes the season with a 5-5 record.
Game Two: Old Westbury 5, Farmingdale 4
Old Westbury scored two runs in the to of the first inning. Jamal Ritter (0-for-4, R) walked to start the game, and Jacob Taormina (3-for-5, RBI, R) hit a triple to left center to score the run. Later in the inning, Oscar Fajardo (2-for-4, 2 RBI, R) hit a sacrifice fly to score Taormina. Farmingdale answered back with three runs in the bottom half of the first inning to take the 3-2 lead.
The Panthers tied the game with a run in the fifth inning. Patrick Schriffen (0-for-3, RBI) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Shaun Kaminski (1-for-4, R), who hit a single to left field earlier in the inning. Old Westbury regained the lead in the sixth inning. Aaron Castillo (1-for-3, R) singled up the middle and later advanced to third on an error by the first baseman. Fajardo hit an infield single to second base to score Castillo to go ahead 4-3. Old Westbury added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning, and held Farmingdale to one run in the bottom of the inning to secure the 5-4 victory.
Justin Aviles was credited with the win for Old Westbury with five innings pitched in relief, allowing one unearned run on three hits with two strikeouts.
