Softball Sweeps Sarah Lawrence on Senior Day

The Old Westbury softball team swept a Skyline doubleheader against Sarah Lawrence College on Senior Day. The two wins clinched the #6 seed for the Panthers in the Skyline Conference tournament. Old Westbury will face #3 Mount Saint Mary College. 

Game One: Old Westbury 9, Sarah Lawrence 0
Old Westbury scored in each of the four innings in the five inning victory against Sarah Lawrence in game one of the doubleheader. Natalie Intrieri (2-for-3, 2 R) led off the bottom of the first inning with a double to left field, and later advanced to third on a passed ball then scored on another passed ball. In the second inning, Jessica Tucci (2-for-2, R) hit an infield single and stole second base. Lillian Chiauzzi (1-for-2, RBI) singled to left field to score Tucci.

The Panthers scored five runs in the third inning. Intrieri hit her second double of the game and stole third base, before Shannon Myles (1-for-2, 2 R) walked and stole second. Alaina Reilly (1-for-2, 2 RBI, 2 R) followed with a double to right center for two RBIs. Rosanna Cuttone (2-for-3, RBI) then singled to right field to score Reilly; Sara Welti entered as a pinch runner for Cuttone. Hillary Bennett (1-for-2, RBI, R) later tripled to left field to score Welti, and then scored on a passed ball.

Christina Hassett earned the win in the circle with five innings pitched, allowing four hits and one walk with six strikeouts.

Game Two: Old Westbury 7, Sarah Lawrence 1
Old Westbury scored in each of the first five innings in game two to secure the early lead. Natalie Intrieri (3-for-4, 2 R) doubled down the left field line to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Shannon Myles (2-for-4, R) hit a bunt single that moved Intrieri to third, who then scored on a throwing error. 

In the second inning, Gianna Ventiere (0-for-4, 2 R) reached first on a dropped third strike and advanced to second on a throwing error by the catcher. Heather Dillon (0-for-1, RBI, R) then put down a sacrifice bunt that allowed Ventiere to score from second base. Shannon Myles (2-for-4, R) led off the third inning with a triple and Alaina Reilly (2-for-3, RBI) followed with a single to score Myles.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Dillon was hit by a pitch and Intrieri singled and advanced to third on a throwing error; Dillon scored on the throw. Intrieri later stole home to put Old Westbury up 5-0. Ventiere reached on an error to start the fifth inning, and Morgan Albright (1-for-2, RBI, R) hit a single to score Ventiere. With her fifth hit of the day, Intrieri singled to right field and Albright scored on an error.

Gianna DiLillo was credited with the win in game two with six innings pitched, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts. Lillian Chiauzzi pitched one inning of relief with two strikeouts.
