Panthers outpace Maritime in dominant win

Throggs Neck, New York | October 20, 2023 |  The SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer team scored early and often in a 7-1 defeat of the SUNY Maritime Privateers.

Alyse Then scored in the fifth minute the first half from an assist by Mia Almonte. Then's goal was the first of what would become five goals on the night, bringing her Skyline Conference-leading total to 30 goals with one game remaining. With 30 goals, Then broke both the freshman and overall single-season goal-scoring record for the program.

Almonte also logged a second assist on another Then goal and then scored herself in the 84th minute off an assist from senior Jessica Pedroza. Senior Mikayla Crosier also contributed a goal when her shot in the seventh minute found the lower left corner of the goal.

The offense was not the only unit clicking.

While each team took 21 shots in the game, the Panther defense held firm, allowing only one goal in the 68th minute. At that point, SUNY Old Westbury was defending with 10 players following a red card for senior goalkeeper Natalie Intrieri, who logged six saves before leaving.
