Panthers vs. Panthers ends in Draw

Purchase, New York | October 3, 2023 | The SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer team earned a hard-fought draw Tuesday night, as the Panthers of Old Westbury tied SUNY Purchase Panthers 1-1.

With the result, the SUNY Old Westbury improved its record to to 2-6-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the Skyline Conference. 

After a back-and-forth first half left the scoreboard scoreless, the second half featured ramped up action.

In the 64th minute, Old Westbury broke the deadlock by scoring off a corner kick, with freshman forward Roobens Celine heading home a corner kick from Cristian Garay. Celine earlier in the day had been named to the Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll.

As SUNY Purchase threw bodies forward on offense, Old Westbury held firm on defense, led by Tiago Tirado and Ashel Santos. 

The Purchase Panthers, however, found an equalizer in the 86th minute via a penalty shot. A potential winning goal for the opponent was thwarted in the 89th minute with a point-blank save by goalkeeper Andy Chacho.
