Softball Takes Two Wins at Purchase

The Old Westbury softball team earned two Skyline Conference wins against Purchase on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 6-8 overall, and 4-0 in conference play.

Game One: Old Westbury 12, Purchase 2

How it Happened

Old Westbury got on the scoreboard early with four runs in the top of the first inning, by way of two walks, one hit, and three errors. In the top of the second inning, they tacked on three more runs. Alaina Reilly and Rosanna Cuttone both singled before Madison Danin stepped up to the plate and hit a three-run home run, the first of her career.

Old Westbury scored one run in each of the third and fourth innings on a sacrifice fly by Angelina Fernandez to score Natalie Intrieri, and an RBI single by Jessica Tucci to score Heather Dillon. The Panthers scored three more runs to close out the game in the top of the fifth inning. Cuttone and Morgan Albright each hit an RBI single, and Jenna Gaspa worked a bases-loaded walk.

 

Top Performers

  • Madison Danin led the team with three RBI off a three-run home run. She went 2-for-2 with two walks.
  • Rosanna Cuttone went 2-for-3 with a RBI and three runs scored.
  • Julia Pastrana earned the win in the circle, allowing eight hits with five strikeouts through five innings. She did not allow any earned runs.

Game Two: Old Westbury 16, Purchase 4

How it Happened

Old Westbury scored first with one run in the first inning. Natalie Intrieri led off with a double, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Shannon Myles, and later scored on a wild pitch. In the top of the second inning, Rosanna Cuttone singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jessica Tucci, before scoring on a throwing error by the catcher.

Purchase earned one run back in the bottom of the second inning, before Old Westbury added two more in the third inning to increase their lead, 4-1. Myles led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and score on Alaina Reilly's RBI double. Morgan Albright came in to pinch hit and hit a double of her own. Hillary Bennett hit a sacrifice fly to score Reilly.

Old Westbury added onto the lead with five runs in the fifth inning by way of four hits, four wild pitches, and three errors. The Panthers secured the win with seven more runs in the top of the seventh inning, on four hits with the help of six walks.

  • Natalie Intrieri went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.
  • Alaina Reilly went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and three runs scored.
  • Hillary Bennett went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored.
  • Rosanna Cuttone went 2-for-3 with a RBI and three runs scored.
  • Ava Hoffman went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
  • Gianna DiLillo earned the win with 5.2 innings pitched. She allowed four runs on 10 hits and struck out eight batters.
