Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Ortega, Vasquez Lead Panthers Over Brooklyn College

A downpour 30 minutes before kickoff didn't dampen the spirits of the Panther Men's Soccer Team as they came out with high energy, keeping Brooklyn College on the defensive for much of the game.

In all, the Panthers took 22 shots, 11 on goal, in a 2-1 victory at Panther Park in the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex at SUNY Old Westbury. The win moved the Panthers' record in 2023 to 1-2.

From the 15th minute of the first half through to halftime, the Panthers held the advantage in possession and pressured Brooklyn, attempting 11 first half in all. The last one, in the 45th minute, by sophomore
Jessi Vasquez found the back of the net, sending Old Westbury into halftime with a 1-0 lead. The goal is Vasquez's first of 2023.

The Panthers extended their lead in the second half when a penalty was awarded against Brooklyn in the 66th minute. Senior midfielder Erick Ortega stepped up and slotted the shot past Brooklyn goalkeeper Hady Bakry.

The Bearcats closed to gap in the 80th minute when Jasper Ehrhradt scored off an assist by Rayan Vukovic. It was too little, too late, however as the Panthers saw the game through to the final whistle.

On a humid afternoon, with a wet field, five Panthers logged the entire 90 minutes: defenders Tiago Tirado, Tyler Tesoriere, and Walter Balcaceres; midielder Ashel Santos, and goalkeeper Andy Chacho.
