Women’s Volleyball Dominates in Non-Conference Sweep Over Medgar Evers In Thursday Night’s Dig Pink Match

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball team defeated the Cougars of Medgar Evers College on Thursday night in a quick three set victory. 
 
Old Westbury advances to 4-8 on the season with a conference record of 1-3.
 
The Panthers were off to a hot start as the team recorded a total of eight kills together throughout the set. One strong aspect of the first set was nine service aces from Jonangeliz Alvarez Rodriguez.
 
The Panthers would hold strong and take the first set by a final score of 25-5.
 
In the second set, the Panthers continued to maintain their strong attack. 
 
As a team, OW put up six kills and had only one error. Medgar Evers was only able to record one kill and committed a total of six errors.
 
The Panthers had their best set and took down the Cougars, 25-4.
 
In what would be the final set, Medgar Evers' errors continued to mount as they committed five as a team. The Panthers finished with eight kills as a unit to ultimately take the final set by a score of 25-6. 
 
It was a strong night for several Panthers. Stephanie Maser led the charge as she recorded nine kills and also had four digs. 
 
Geanelle Sam had two kills and eight assists. Jonangeliz Alvarez Rodriguez shined as the team's libero and recorded 13 services aces.
 
Next up, the Panthers will travel to take on the Bears of St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Saturday, October 12 at 12 PM. Following that, the team will return home for a match against St. Joseph's-Long Island on October 15.
