Men’s Soccer Records Loss Against Mount Saint Mary to Close the 2024 Season

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer team was defeated by the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday night. The final score was 5-2 in favor of the Knights. 

The game got off to a good start for both sides' defenses. The first goal would not come until the 33rdminute. There, it was the Panthers who struck first. 
 
Roobens Celine scored the Panthers' first goal as he found the back of the net on a nice assist from Henrik Ropstad
 
The Knights responded just seconds later as Jeremy Burgos scored the Knights' first goal. 

Mount Saint Mary would score once again with just about four minutes to play in the opening half. 
 
The Knights carried a 2-1 lead into halftime over the Panthers.
 
In the second half, the Knights scored yet again not even a full minute into the half as Marco Mazzarelli scored his second of the night. 
 
The Panthers responded as Celine found the back of the net once again for his second of the night. Celine saw a nice assist from Jefferey Baires. 
 
With the score now 2-3 in favor of MSMC, the pressure was back on the Panthers' defense. 
 
The Knights managed to grow their lead and score two more times in the final 20 minutes of the half. 
 
Mount Saint Mary would hold on to defeat Old Westbury by a final score of 5-2. 
 
Roobens Celine had a strong showing for the Panthers as he finished the match with two goals on two shots. Henrik Ropstad took one shot and finished with an assist. 
 
In net, Andy Chacho played the full match and recorded six saves. Throughout the match, Chacho faced 13 shots on goal. 
 
The Panthers finish the 2024 campaign with an overall record of 6-11-1 and a Skyline Conference record of 2-10.
