Women’s Volleyball Finishes Season on a Winning Note Against Mount Saint Vincent on Senior Night

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball team defeated the University of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins on senior night by a score of 3-0.

Prior to the match, the Panthers honored their graduating senior student-athletes, Geanelle Sam and Sumira Williams.

The first set was a tight battle as both teams went back and forth as UMSV took a 12-11 lead. After that it became a match of runs with Old Westbury going on a 6-0 run followed by a Dolphin 5-0 run. It would be the Panthers who closed the set on a 5-2 run winning 25-22. It was a big frame for Stephanie Maser who had 8 kills in the opening set alone.

The second set was just as tight as the first with Old Westbury making two comebacks. USMV had leads of both 13-8 and 18-14, but the Panthers would come back to tie the set at 25-25. Senior, Geanelle Sam closed it out with a service ace to win the set, 27-25.

The third set went back and forth again with the Dolphins taking a slight edge up 17-16. After that it was all Old Westbury as the Panthers went on a run of nine unanswered points, winning the set 25-17 and closing out the match.

It was a strong game for Stephanie Maser who led the team with 23 total points. The Panthers also got contributions from Stephanie Velez and Geanelle Sam who had three service aces a piece. Sam finishes the season with 43 total service aces, which is the best on the team.

The Panthers close the 2024 campaign with an overall record of 5-15 and a conference record of 2-9.
