Baseball Dominates Yeshiva in Friday's Conference Doubleheader

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. -  The SUNY Old Westbury baseball team bested the Maccabees of Yeshiva University on Friday afternoon in two games. The Panthers won the games by final scores of 32-1 and 20-0. The Panthers secured their first two conference wins of the season. 
 
Game One- SUNY Old Westbury (32) – Yeshiva University (1)
 
The scoring was plentiful in the first game of the doubleheader. Several Panthers had multi-hit games. 
 
Captain Jacob Taormina finished with two runs, one hit and a walk. Kenneth Dow recorded two hits, two runs and three RBIs as a pinch hitter. Jamie Barrios notched one hit, three runs and an RBI. Rob Manetta had another strong day at the plate. Manetta amassed a hit, two runs and two RBIs. Nick Papageorge recorded three runs, one hit, two walks and three RBIs. 
 
Back on the mound for the Panthers was Frank Whitenack. He secured the win and allowed only one hit, striking out six batters. In relief, Johnathan Kortwright picked up the save and struck out five batters. He allowed two hits and a run. 
 
Game Two- SUNY Old Westbury (20) – Yeshiva University (0)
 
Jamie Barrios continued his strong offensive play, finishing with three hits, four runs, five RBIs and a walk. Another top performer was Mateo Martinez. He finished the early game with two hits, one run and an RBI. Martinez had two triples. Mike Petrucelly blasted a homerun over the left field fence. This would be the first homerun hit at the new Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex for the Panthers. 
 
On the mound, Kyle Gaertner got the win securing his first of the year. Gaertner recorded seven strikeouts and allowed only two hits. In relief, both Rob Manetta and Joe Morreale finished with two strikeouts each.  
 
Next up, the Panthers will play host to Lehman College for a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, March 17. The first game of the day will begin at 11 AM at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
