Men's Volleyball Secures Another Win Against Yeshiva; Falls to NJCU at Friday's Tri-Match

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team split the day at the Skyline Conference Tri-Match on Friday. The Panthers defeated the Maccabees of Yeshiva University but fell to the Knights of New Jersey City University. The tri-match was hosted by Yeshiva but played on the campus of Purchase College.
 
Match One- SUNY Old Westbury (3) – Yeshiva (2)

The Panthers and Maccabees played a very similar match to the one they had back at the Clark Center in early March. Both sides rallied back-and-forth, forcing five sets. The Panthers were able to power through and finish the match, securing the fifth set victory.

The strongest set of the match for the Panthers was the opening set. The Panthers outscored the Maccabees, 25-13. The team notched a total of six kills. The team was forced to lock in and battle back after winning the first and third sets, and falling in the second and forth set.

With their backs against the wall, the Panthers put up an impressive six kills in the match's deciding set to 15 points.

Anthony Moyett led the way again for OW. Moyett had an impressive outing where he recorded 30 kills, two service aces, and 36 digs. Ashel Santos continues to improve his game. Santos amassed eight kills, two aces, and a block. Kyle Singh-Gajadar stepped up near the net as he managed to put up 22 assists and had 23 digs. As a team, the Panthers finished with 43 kills, eight aces, three blocks, 42 assists and 147 digs.
 
Match Two- SUNY Old Westbury (0) – NJCU (3)

The Panthers were not as sharp in the day's final game. OW was outscored by nearly double-digits in each of the three sets against the Knights.

The best set was the first one for the Panthers. The team put up 17 points, and had eight kills and only two errors.
OW struggled in what would be the final set of the afternoon as they were only able to secure three kills and 12 points as a team.

Despite the three-set loss, Moyett led the way again in kills with seven. He also had two aces and two assists. Ashel Santos recorded another four kills and also had three aces and four digs. Kosta Anagnostou and Kyle Singh-Gajadar each recorded five assists. As a team, Old Westbury had 16 kills, five aces, 14 assists, and 25 digs.

Next up, the Panthers will face off against the Lions of Nassau Community College for another exhibition match. OW will then return to Purchase, N.Y. to resume conference play against the Panthers of Purchase College. The match will take place on Wednesday, March 27 at 7 PM.
