Men's Volleyball Taken Down by Purchase on Wednesday Night

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team was defeated by the Panthers of Purchase College on Wednesday night, 3-0. OW falls to 2-17 on the year. 
 
The first set of the match was the most competitive in terms of scoring. The Panthers finished with five kills as a team. The set was essentially up for grabs in the late going. The score was 19-18 in favor of Purchase. Following that point, Purchase was able to score six straight points to walk away with the first set victory, 25-18. 
 
In the second set, OW had a strong attack, but was unable to overcome Purchase. Old Westbury finished the second set with a total of 11 kills compared to Purchase's 15. The Panthers of Old Westbury were unable to comeback in the late stages. Purchase took the set, 25-16. 
 
The match's final set was where the Panthers of OW recorded their most kills. Despite their efforts, OW was unable to make noise against purchase and were defeated in the final set, 25-15. Purchase won the match, 3-0. 
 
For the first time this season, the Panthers had a new team leader in kills. Ashel Santos led the team in kills with eight. Santos also had five digs. Anthony Moyett still had a strong game. Moyett recorded seven kills two blocks and three digs. Senior James Seraphin finished with six kills and two blocks. Val Homles was a force in the middle with five blocks on the night. 
 
Next up for the Panthers is an evening match against fellow Skyline Conference member, Ramapo College. The Panthers will travel to take on Ramapo, this Friday, March 29 at 7 PM. The Panthers will return home for their final home match of the season on Tuesday, April 2 for a match against the University of Mount Saint Vincent. That night, the Panthers will also honor their senior student-athletes before the match.
