Women’s Lacrosse Concludes The 2024 Season With Thrilling Victory Over Purchase on Friday Night

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse team was victorious after a late game thriller on the road against the Panthers of Purchase College. The final score was 8-7 in favor of Old Westbury.
 
The Panthers got things going first when Sarah Boubert scored a man up goal just about midway through the first quarter.  
 
Just about a minute later, Isabella Recine connected on another unassisted goal to put OW up, 2-0.
 
Joann Williams got involved in the scoring for the Panthers with five minutes to play in the opening period. Old Westbury closed the first quarter with a 3-0 lead.
 
Purchase came out strong to begin the second quarter. They scored two goals before OW could respond. Old Westbury's response came thanks to Boubert who scored another unassisted goal to make it a 4-2 game in favor of Old Westbury.
 
With the remaining time in the half, Purchase managed to scored two more goals. Going into the break, the score was tied 4-4.
 
Coming out of the halftime break, Boubert and OW continued their strong offensive performance. Boubert would score three more goals, one in the third and two in the fourth. In addition to Boubert, Williams had another goal of her own in the third quarter.
 
Purchase responded with a run of their own as they scored three goals unanswered to even the game with under three minutes to play. The score was tied 7-7.
 
Boubert's hot hand helped the Panthers down the stretch as she scored a man down goal with 30 seconds left in the game to give the Panthers of Old Westbury the victory. Old Westbury defeated Purchase in the Skyline Conference battle by a final score of 8-7.
 
Sarah Boubert had an impressive night, finishing with five goals, five ground balls, two caused turnovers and five draw controls. Joann Williams also was a key contributor. Williams had two goals, and four draw controls. Isabella Recine recorded a goal, two ground balls, and one caused turover.
For Old Westbury, Katherine Campbell made her second start of the year filling in at goalie. Campbell finished the night with the win and two saves.
 
With this win, OW finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 2-10 and a conference record of 1-7. The Panthers will look to continue to build the foundation they formed this year as the team returned and played their games on campus.
