Women’s Soccer Falls to John Jay in Season Opener on Saturday

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer team was defeated by the Bloodhounds of John Jay College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 4-0. 
 
The Panthers demonstrated strong effort and attack throughout the game but were unable to capitalize on a few potential scoring opportunities. 
 
John Jay would score their first goal in the final minutes of the first half as Anna Wehr assisted Emma Fisher to put the Bloodhounds ahead, 1-0 at the half. 
 
The Bloodhounds scored two goals within minutes of each other beginning at the 74-minute mark as Olivia Boucher and Mikayla Schoch capitalized on OW's defensive lapses. 
 
With a 3-0 lead, Boucher added another goal to her stat line to put the Bloodhounds ahead by four goals. 
 
The Panthers were unable to find the net throughout the remainder the game. The Panthers fell to the Bloodhounds by a final score of 4-0. 
 
Despite the defeat, the Panthers made several positive strides throughout the game. Edelyn Garcia, Eleni Petri and Jocelyn Forseth each took a shot on goal. 
 
The highlight of the day for the Panthers was the effort in the net by first-year goalkeeper, Kristen Gallagher. In net, Gallagher finished the afternoon with 10 saves on 14 shots on goal. 
 
All in all, the team fell short in their first game of the year and first time playing together as a unit. Next up, the Panthers will remain at home and play host to CCNY on Saturday, September 17. The game is scheduled to begin at 11 AM at Panther Park.
