Women's Volleyball Takes Down Lehman in Three Set Sweep on Saturday

 
BRONX, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury Women's Volleyball team defeated the Lehman College Lightning by a score of three sets to zero. The Panthers now improve to an overall record of 2-2 on the season.
 
Old Westbury got off to a hot start, leading the 1st set 8-3 out of the gates, with help from two service aces from Nicole Zugnoni. The two teams went back and forth until a Panther 9–4 run gave them a 20-11 lead. Old Westbury would close out the first set winning 25-19.
 
The second set began with a tight contest as the Panthers took a 10-8 lead. After that point it was all Old Westbury. The Panthers went on a 8-1 run through two service aces by Stephanie Maser, who had three aces on the day. Old Westbury would end up closing out the set winning 25-16.
 
Lehman would open up the third set on top with the early 8-5 lead. It was a battle as the Panthers were the first to twenty, but only held a 20-18. After a bit of back and forth Old Westbury scored 4 of the last 6 points and won the final set.
 
Stephanie Maser led the way with 15 kills, as well as 13 digs. Other notable performances came from Stephanie Velez who had six kills and five digs as well as Nicole Zugnoni with five kills and three digs.
 
Up next for the Panthers is their Skyline conference opener as they take on Yeshiva University. The last matchup between the two ended in favor of Old Westbury winning 3-0. The match is set to begin at 12 PM on Sunday, September 21.
