Women’s Soccer Overpowers Maritime To Secure 2-1 Victory on Wednesday

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer team defeated the Privateers of Maritime College on Wednesday by a final score of 2-1. 
 
The Panthers now move to 4-4-1 on the season and sit at 2-1-0 in conference play. 
 
The game got off to a favorable start for Maritime as they scored the game's first goal just about five minutes in as Kiera Ford put a nice pass from Ava Morill in the back of the net. 
 
The Panthers were unable to score in the first half despite controlling the ball in their offensive zone for some time. Throughout the first half, Old Westbury took a total of seven shots.
 
Maritime went into halftime with a 1-0 lead over OW. 
 
In the second half, the Panthers offense came out strong. Together, the team took a total of eight shots in the second half with a total of 12 shots on target throughout the game. 

The Panthers would score their first goal of the game to even the scoreboard as Eleni Petri found the back of the net. Petri's goal was assisted by Jaylyn Sanchez who made a pass of a shot attempt from Forseth that had hit the post. 
 
With the game tied, 1-1, the Panthers looked to take the lead. 
 
Jocelyn Forseth answered the call near the 68th minute as she scored a penalty kick goal. Forseth's goal gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead. 
 
The Privateers would not respond, and the Panthers walked away with the 2-1 victory. 
 
The reigning Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, Jocelyn Forseth, finished the game with nine shots on goal with one goal scored. Eleni Petri also continued her strong play as she finished this game with one goal on one shot on goal. 
 
In net, Kristen Gallagher allowed the lone Maritime goal. Gallagher finished the day with a total of four saves after facing five shots on goal. 
 
Next up, the Panthers will travel to take on the Knights of Mount Saint Mary in another Skyline Conference battle. The game will take place on Saturday, September 28 at 12 PM.
