Women’s Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Match to Albertus Magnus on Thursday Night

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. -  The SUNY old Westbury women's volleyball team was defeated by the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College on Thursday night. The Falcons took the match, 3-0. 

The Panthers fall to 4-9 on the season and hold a conference record of 1-4. 
 
The Panthers honored those affected by Breast Cancer with their annual Dig Pink Match, dedicating this game to all who have been affected by this disease. 
 
Despite their struggles, the Panthers had several strong rallies. Old Westbury would put up 29 kills and just 12 errors across the night. The team finished, tied with the Falcons, in total attacks with 121. 
 
The first set was close as the Falcons would see 11 kills compared to the Panthers' nine. Albertus Magnus was able to go on a late run and would not look back as they took the opening set, 25-17. 
 
In the second set, the Panthers remained in the fight until late. As a team, Old Westbury recorded nine kills and just three errors. It was close until late in the set where the Falcons' offense shifted as they saw a match high 16 kills to take the second set, 25-19. 
 
In what would be the final set of the night, the Panthers put up another valiant effort. Old Westbury saw their most kills with 11 and the Falcons finished the set with just nine. In the end, it was a few costly service errors that would help give the Falcons the momentum they needed. Albertus Magnus would take the third and final set, 25-19. The Falcons won the match, 3-0. 
 
Paige Herbert led the Panthers in kills as she finished with 11. Herbert also had an ace as well as 13 digs. Stephanie Maser recorded six kills, and a block. Stephanie Velez finished with five kills and a block. Kasey Coppola recorded two blocks. Katia Gomez impressed as she finished with 22 assists and 15 digs. Libero Sofia Lopez recorded two assists and 13 digs. 
 
Next up, the Panthers return to conference play. The Panthers will remain at home and play host to the Bears of St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on Saturday, October 18. The Panthers and the Bears will face off from the Clark Center Gymnasium starting at 11 AM.
