Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Maritime on Senior Day

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. -  The SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer team took down the Privateers of SUNY Maritime on Saturday. The final score was 2-0 in favor of Old Westbury. 
 
The Panthers now improve to 4-6 on the season and sit at 2-3 in conference play. 
 
Prior to the opening kick, the Panthers honored their lone senior and captain, Ashel Santos
 
Both sides battled throughout the entire match with each team seeing several opportunities to score. 
 
Neither side would find the back of the net in the first half. 
 
The Panthers would find the back of the net just over 60 minutes into the match thanks to Henrik Ropstad who scored his tenth goal of the season. Ropstad was assisted by Isaac Cardenas to make it a 1-0 game. 
 
In the final minute, Johan Gran broke through and found the back of the net to make it a 2-0 game. 
 
The Panthers would hold on and would take down Maritime, 2-0 on senior day. 
 
Johan Gran finished the game with a goal, two shots on-net and four total shots. Henrik Ropstad would take three shots on-goal and recorded a goal. Isaac Cardenas recorded an assist. Jeffery Baires took three on-target shots. 
 
In goal, First-Year Vedant Sortur impressed. Sortur recorded 13 saves and faced a total of 23 shot attempts. 
 
Next up, the Panthers will return to conference play on Monday, October 6. The Panthers will hit the road and take on the Bears of St. Jospeh's University-Brooklyn. That match is scheduled for 4 PM.
