The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team erased nearly a 20 point lead by Farmingdale State to end the first half of a Skyline Conference match up from the Clark Athletic Center. Strong shooting from the Rams, however, would undo the effort and result in an 83-66 loss for the Panthers. Old Westbury would fall to 1-9 on the season and 0-1 in Skyline play while Farmingdale improved to 8-2 (1-0 Skyline) in the effort.
Old Westbury opened with field goals from
Stephon Rosch Kouassi to make it 7-4. Farmingdale would score seven points in the next two minutes to make it a 14-4 contest after six minutes of play. Baskets from Rosch Kouassi,
Joel Ofori, and
Jermaine King Jr. would bring the Panthers within six, 22-16, midway through the first half. The Rams would quickly jump out ahead and lead by 17, 35-18, with six minutes to play. The Panthers found a second gear, firing off a 15-3 run to close the half and come within five, 38-33.Â
Jumpers from King and
Christian Thomas would help keep it a two-possession game, 43-39, four minutes into the second half. Farmingdale would respond with an 8-2 run to lead 51-41. The pair of King and Thomas would continue to chip away at the lead, aided by foul shots from
Imole Akinwale, but Farmingdale's shooters would miss just five field goals in the final 10 minutes to re-establish the lengthy lead and seal the win.
King led the Panthers with 15 points and seven rebounds. Ofori followed with 12 points and added four rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals. Thomas added nine points and seven rebounds.
Latimer Taylor Jr. also netted nine points in the effort. Akinwale led with four assists while Rosch Kouassi had two blocks.Â
Old Westbury will close out the 2025 calendar year on Thursday December 18 against William Patterson at 7:00 p.m. from the Clark Athletic Center.
