BOHRINGER RETIRES

Betty Bohringer Retires as Women’s Soccer Head Coach

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Head Coach Betty Bohringer has announced her retirement from her position as head coach after nine seasons leading the SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer program.

Bohringer joined the Panthers back in June of 2012 where she served as an assistant for the program. She later assumed her role as head coach in 2016.

Since arriving on campus in 2012, Bohringer has assisted in the development of multiple All-Skyline Conference selections, including the program's second-ever Player of the Year honoree in 2014. Old Westbury was also awarded with the New York Metro Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association (NYMISOA) Sportsmanship Award in 2014.

More recently, in 2023, Bohringer has helped guide Alyse Then during her freshman season with the Panthers to become the NCAA Statistical Champion for goals per game.

Community service has always been a crucial point of emphasis for Bohringer's programs. Over the years, Bohringer and the Panthers have taken part in service projects such as helping with the removal of debris from local beaches and stabilizing sand dunes by planting dune grass, volunteering at SUNY Old Westbury's move in week and so much more.

In addition to running the women's soccer team, Bohringer played a big role in helping with OW's gameday operations.

Just this past year, she jumped in and helped the department by serving as an interim assistant coach for women's basketball and as the head coach for the women's lacrosse program in the spring of 2025.

Bohringer finishes her time at the helm at Old Westbury, with a soccer coaching record of 46-88-7.

The Old Westbury athletic department will miss Bohringer and her commitment to the department and her student-athletes' success. Bohringer hopes the program will continue to celebrate its alumni through the annual OW Women's Soccer Alumni Game. During her time with the Panthers, women's soccer was one of the only programs to host alumni event year-after-year.

SUNY Old Westbury's Director of Athletics Lenore Walsh said, "On behalf of the entire Panther community, I want to thank Coach Bohringer for her unwavering commitment to SUNY Old Westbury. Her passion, leadership, and tireless dedication have made a lasting impact—not only to the soccer program but our athletic department as a whole."

A search for the program's next head coach is currently underway. Information about the position and a link to apply can be found here.
