Women’s Soccer Defeats Yeshiva to Secure First Conference Victory

NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. – The SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer team defeated the Maccabees of Yeshiva University on Sunday afternoon. The final score was 8-0 in favor of Old Westbury.
 
The Panthers now sit at 1-1 overall on the season and sit at 1-0 in conference play.
 
Old Westbury got things going on the scoreboard just 12 minutes into the match. Briana Sayoc found the back of the net for her first goal as a Panther thanks to a nice assist from Jamie Garcia Sorto.
 
At the 32:27 mark, Garcia Sorto would find the back of the net herself to make it a 2-0 game. Just about a minute later, Stefany Donnelly would score off a nice assist from Sayoc.
 
At the end of the first half, the Panthers led, 3-0.
 
Old Westbury would score five goals in the second half. The first in the second half came from Eleni Petri who was assisted by Jasmine Roldan and Donnelly.
 
About 20 minutes after that, Sayoc would score her second goal of the game, unassisted.
 
Dorla Miguel Leiva scored her first collegiate goal thanks to an assist from Skylar Catrambone to make it a 6-0 game.
 
Sayoc would score her third goal of the game at the 85:10 mark. Donnelly score her second goal with just 45 seconds to go in the game.
 
The Panthers would hold on and complete the shutout against Yeshiva to win, 8-0.
 
Briana Sayoc dominated with three goals and an assist. Sayoc took 13 total shots with nine of them on-goal. Jamie Garcia Sorto finished the afternoon with one goal and an assist. Stefany Donnelly had two goals and an assist. Eleni Petri and Dorla Miguel Leiva each had a goal. Jasmine Roldan and Skyler Catrambone each contributed with an assist.
 
In goal, Kristen Gallagher completed the shutout. She recorded one save after facing just two total shots.
 
Next up, the Panthers will return to action, tomorrow, September 8 at home. The Panthers will kick things off at home against the Pratt Institute. The Panthers will host Pratt at Panther Park at 3:30 PM.
