King Nets Double-Double at Maritime

The SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball team fell to the Privateers of Maritime College this weekend, 93-76 from Riesenberg Gymnasium. The loss sets the Panthers at 3-11 on the season and 1-3 in Skyline Conference play while Maritime improves to 7-6 (3-1 Skyline) with the victory.

Old Westbury was led by 21 points from Jermaine King Jr., who added 10 assists for a double-double to go with a team-leading three steals. King and Joel Ofori both shot 50 percent from the floor on the afternoon, with Ofori totaling 12 points and a team-leading seven rebounds.

A 12-2 run early in the first half put the Privateers in front, 15-7. After trailing by as many as 17, a 15-6 run brought the Panthers back within single digits, 37-29, with foul shots from Ofori, Imole Akinwale and Christian Thomas, a three-pointer from King, and field goals from both Thomas and Ahmad Sackor. Maritime would respond with 10-straight points and would lead 51-33 at the half. The gap would be too much for the Panthers to overcome in the second half.

Old Westbury will return to the court on January 14 at St. Joseph's Long Island at 7:00 pm.
