Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Drops to CCNY

The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team fell in three sets to the Beavers of the City College of New York in the second game of the season. The Panthers now sit at an even 1-1 while CCNY improve to 2-1.

The offense struggled to find effective attacks, hitting at a high of 20 percent in the match. Where Old Westbury did shine, however, was at the service line. Five different Panthers recorded an ace, including two from both Ashel Santos, Lucas Rogers, and Damian Villamil. Torrence Fredericks led Old Westbury with nine kills. Santos added 11 assists and five digs to his night at the service line. Villamil also had five digs.

The score would be tied seven times in the opening 14 points until the Beavers exploded on a eight-point run to lead 15-7. Old Westbury would be unable to catch them, dropping the first set 25-14. The second set saw more back-and-forth action with the largest run being a four-point swing in favor of CCNY that would be enough to change the tide en route to a 25-18 set win. The Panthers put together a strong third set, leading for nearly the entirety of the set. A four-point run that saw two kills from Villamil put Old Westbury ahead, 23-20, but the Beavers responded with the next five-straight to seal both the match and the set.

The Panthers are back in action on Thursday, February 5 against Medgar Evers College for the home opener at 6:00 pm from the Clark Athletic Center.
