Women’s Lacrosse Downed by Albertus Magnus in Non-Conference Action, 14–4

Panthers Show Offensive Growth but Fall to Albertus Magnus

New Haven, CT – Following a tough season opener loss to Merchant Marine Academy on the road where they were unable to net a goal, the SUNY Old Westbury Women's Lacrosse team continued their three-game road stand Thursday afternoon traveling to New Haven, Connecticut to take on Albertus Magnus in non-conference play. The Panthers ultimately fell to the Falcons 14–4 but showed noticeable improvement offensively while recording their first goals of the season.

Old Westbury generated significantly more offensive opportunities throughout the contest, finishing with 18 total shots after being limited to zero shots in their season opener against Merchant Marine. The Panthers also placed seven shots on goal, forcing Albertus Magnus goalkeeper Victoria McDermott to make multiple saves throughout the afternoon.

The Panthers got on the scoreboard late in the second quarter when junior midfielder Caitlyn Subero buried a goal to record Old Westbury's first score of the season.

Freshman attacker Ciana Kunen led the Panthers offensively with two goals, including a man-up goal in the second half. Junior midfielder Ashley Maniscalco also added a goal to round out the Panthers' scoring effort.

Old Westbury also showed improvement in transition play, converting 8-of-26 clear attempts, while Albertus Magnus finished 13-of-17 on clears. The Panthers continued to compete in the draw circle as well, securing nine draw controls compared to the Falcons' 12.

Defensively, Old Westbury recorded 13 total ground balls, while Albertus Magnus finished with 20 ground balls in the contest. Sophomore attacker Katia Maisonneuve contributed a ground ball and two caused turnovers, while sophomore defender Kristen Gallagher registered one caused turnover to help disrupt the Falcons' attack. Junior midfielder Caitlyn Subero also collected a ground ball, while junior midfielder Ashley Maniscalco contributed in the draw circle, helping the Panthers stay competitive in possession battles throughout the game.

In goal, Jara Gonzalez recorded five saves while facing consistent offensive pressure from the Albertus Magnus attack.
