Men’s Volleyball Falls to Mount St. Vincent on the road

Fredericks leads Old Westbury with seven kills as Panthers fall in straight sets.

RIVERDALE, N.Y. — The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team returned to Skyline Conference action Tuesday afternoon on the road at the University of Mount St. Vincent, where the Panthers fell in straight sets, 25-12, 25-10, 26-24, at the Peter Jay Sharp Center.

With the loss, Old Westbury moves to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in Skyline Conference play, while Mount St. Vincent improves to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in conference action.

The Panthers struggled offensively throughout the match, finishing with 17 total kills and a .032 hitting percentage, while the Dolphins recorded 43 kills and hit .446 as a team.

Despite the loss, sophomore middle blocker Torrence Fredericks led the Panthers' attack with seven kills and two digs. Sophomore right side Shane Kielb added three kills, one assist and two digs, while freshman outside hitter Julius Morales contributed three kills and two digs in the effort.

Freshman setter Lucas Rogers directed the offense with a team-high 12 assists, while also recording two kills and two digs.

Defensively, senior outside hitter Ashel Santos paced the Panthers with five digs, while Skyline Conference Libero of the Week Kevin Alarcon added three digs and one assist in the back row. Kielb, Rogers and Morales each finished with two digs in the contest.

After dropping the first two sets, Old Westbury showed life in the third set, battling late before ultimately falling 26-24.

The Panthers return home to the Clark Athletic Center on Thursday, March 5, where they will continue Skyline Conference play against St. Joseph's University Brooklyn. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m
