OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. — The SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team returned to the Clark Athletic Center on Thursday evening looking to bounce back after a road loss earlier in the week to University of Mount St. Vincent However, the Panthers suffered another Skyline Conference setback, falling to St. Joseph's University Brooklyn in straight sets, 25-23, 25-15, 25-22.
With the loss, Old Westbury moves to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in Skyline Conference play, while St. Joseph's Brooklyn improves to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
On the evening, the Panthers struggled to find consistent rhythm offensively as the visitors outperformed Old Westbury 46 kills to 27 in the match.
Despite the loss, Old Westbury received strong individual efforts throughout the lineup. Freshman middle blocker Jason Giles led the Panthers with 11 kills while hitting .444, adding a dig in the effort.
Sophomore middle blocker Torrence Fredericks also contributed offensively with seven kills, one assist and two digs, while freshman outside hitter Julius Morales recorded four kills and three digs.
Freshman setter Lucas Rogers helped pace the Panthers offense with three kills and a team-high 21 assists, while also adding two digs defensively.
Defensively, senior outside hitter Ashel Santos led the Panthers with seven digs, while Stephen Gilmartin chipped in four digs in the back row.
Old Westbury kept the match competitive early, narrowly dropping the opening set 25-23 before St. Joseph's gained momentum in the second set. The Panthers showed resilience late in the third set, but the Bears closed out the match with a 25-22 victory.

The Panthers will look to regroup as they turn their attention to St. Joseph's University Long Island on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center, where they will continue Skyline Conference play.
