Kunen, Campbell and Gonzalez Power Panthers Past Centenary on Senior Day

Gonzalez notches 200th career save as Panthers rally for first win of the season

Old Westbury, NY – Following a challenging start to the 2026 campaign, the SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse team broke through on Senior Day, earning an 8-6 comeback victory over Centenary University on Wednesday afternoon at Panther Park.

Prior to the game, Old Westbury honored its graduating seniors—Annabella Runyan, Stephanie Velez, Sydney Kim, and Elena Tavarez—for their contributions to the program.

Centenary came out strong, building an early 3-1 lead in the first quarter. Ciana Kunen got the Panthers on the board late in the period, while goalkeeper Jara Gonzalez made several key saves to keep Old Westbury within reach.

The second quarter saw both teams trade goals, with the Panthers continuing to chip away at the deficit. Gonzalez remained steady in net, helping Old Westbury stay within striking distance heading into halftime.

Momentum shifted in the third quarter as Old Westbury turned in one of its strongest stretches of the season. Kunen took over offensively, scoring three goals in the quarter to bring the Panthers within one, 6-5, entering the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Old Westbury completed the comeback. Kunen tied the game at 6-6 with 11:32 remaining, igniting the home crowd. Later in the period, Kunen created another scoring opportunity, finding Katherine Campbell for the go-ahead goal with 3:33 left. The Panthers added an insurance goal in the closing minutes to secure the 8-6 victory—marking their first win of the season.

Gonzalez finished with 18 saves in goal and reached a major milestone with her 200th career save, anchoring a Panthers defense that held Centenary scoreless in the fourth quarter.
