DeRose dominates under the lights as Panthers split doubleheader with Mount St. Vincent

Old Westbury shuts out Dolphins 8-0 behind DeRose’s 12-strikeout performance before falling 1-0 in nightcap

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — The SUNY Old Westbury softball team split a  skyline conference doubleheader against Mount St. Vincent on Sunday night at Flowers Park. The Panthers opened the evening with an 8-0 victory before falling in a tightly contested 1-0 decision in Game 2.

GAME 1: Old Westbury 8, Mount St. Vincent 0
Old Westbury used a five-run second inning to take control of the opener.

Jessica Feerick highlighted the inning with a bases-clearing double, driving in three runs, while Ashley Pierce followed with a two-run home run to extend the lead to 6-0.

The Panthers added insurance runs in the seventh inning on RBI singles from Camila Uribe and Amanda Varela.

Aliya Feerick led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance and two runs scored, while Jessica Feerick finished with three RBIs. Ashley Pierce added two RBIs, and Amanda Varela contributed two hits and an RBI.

In the circle, Olivia DeRose delivered a dominant complete-game shutout. She allowed just two hits over seven innings while striking out 12 and walking one.

GAME 2: Mount St. Vincent 1, Old Westbury 0
Game 2 turned into a pitcher's duel, with both teams limited offensively throughout the contest.

Mount St. Vincent broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning, scoring the lone run of the game on an RBI single.

Old Westbury finished with four hits, led by Jessica Feerick and Olivia Toto, who each recorded two hits. Despite putting runners on base, the Panthers were unable to bring across the tying run.

Hailey Ragozine kept Old Westbury within striking distance in the circle, delivering a strong complete-game effort while allowing just one run.

WHAT OLD WESTBURY DID WELL
Old Westbury showcased its offensive firepower in Game 1, producing timely hitting and capitalizing on scoring opportunities, highlighted by the five-run second inning.

The Panthers also received strong pitching across both games, with DeRose tossing a complete-game shutout in the opener and Ragozine holding Mount St. Vincent to just one run in Game 2.
