PURCHASE, N.Y. – Coming off a loss to Manhattanville on Tuesday night, the SUNY Old Westbury men's volleyball team wrapped up its 2026 regular season on the road Thursday evening with a Skyline Conference matchup against Purchase College. In a contest with postseason implications, the Panthers were defeated by Purchase in straight sets by scores of 25-23, 25-11, and 25-20.
The opening set proved to be the closest frame of the night for Old Westbury. The Panthers battled throughout the set and put together their strongest offensive showing of the match, recording nine kills with just two errors on 24 attempts for a .292 hitting percentage. Despite the strong effort, Purchase was able to edge out the set late, 25-23.
In the second set, Old Westbury continued to compete but struggled to find its rhythm offensively as Purchase pulled away for a 25-11 win. The Panthers responded with a stronger showing in the third set, totaling nine more kills while hitting .269 as a team, but Purchase closed out the match with a 25-20 victory.
Despite the loss, Old Westbury did two things well throughout the match. First, the Panthers showed balance offensively, finishing with 26 kills and getting contributions from several players across the front row. Second, Old Westbury moved the ball effectively at times, totaling 21 assists while also collecting 18 digs on the defensive end.
Torrence Fredericks led the Panthers with 10 kills and added four digs. Julius Morales followed with eight kills while hitting .389, and Luke Vetack chipped in three kills. Shane Kielb and Jason Giles each added two kills, while Kevin Alarcon recorded five digs to lead Old Westbury defensively. Ashel Santos paced the offense with nine assists, and Lucas Rogers added eight assists.
Thursday's contest marked the final game of the regular season for Old Westbury. The Panthers closed the year with a 9-10 overall record, a 6-4 mark at home, and a 6-8 record in Skyline Conference play.
