Panthers Postseason Run Comes to a Close Against Farmingdale State

Old Westbury finishes 2026 season at 23-14 after Skyline elimination matchup against Farmingdale State

PURCHASE, N.Y. — The SUNY Old Westbury softball team saw its 2026 season come to a close on Friday afternoon following a 9-0 loss to Farmingdale State College in the Skyline Conference Softball Championship elimination round at Valiants Field in Purchase, N.Y.

The Panthers entered the matchup following a 4-0 postseason victory over Mount Saint Mary College earlier in the day to keep their Skyline postseason run alive. Farmingdale State struck early in the opening inning after Alexandra Pole delivered a two-run single to center field to give the Rams a 2-0 advantage.

After a pair of scoreless innings, Farmingdale added two more runs in the fourth inning behind RBI hits from Ashley Toro and Natalie McMichael to extend the lead to 4-0.The Rams continued to apply pressure in the fifth inning with sacrifice fly from Isabella Marchini and another RBI single from Toro to push the advantage to 6-0.

Farmingdale State added three more runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a solo home run from Hailey Cannon and an RBI single from Samantha Stolfi, helping secure the 9-0 postseason victory.Old Westbury was unable to generate late offense as the Rams advanced in the Skyline postseason tournament.

WHAT OLD WESTBURY DID WELL?

Despite the loss, the Panthers continued to battle throughout the Skyline Conference postseason after picking up two postseason victories during their tournament run.

Old Westbury collected five hits in the contest while continuing to compete against one of the conference's top programs.

Madison Muehling led the Panthers offensively with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate, while Yelina Arias, Katie Knecht and Phylicia Cangemi each added hits.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The loss concludes the Panthers' 2026 season with a 23-14 overall record following a strong Skyline Conference postseason run. Old Westbury finished the year with an 11-7 mark in conference play while continuing to show resilience, growth and consistency throughout the season and will now look to build on that momentum heading into next year.
