PURCHASE, N.Y. — The Old Westbury men's soccer team battled Manhattanville on Wednesday evening at GoValiants.com Field, but the Panthers fell, 2-1, after the Valiants scored the game-winning goal with just over five minutes remaining.
Manhattanville opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when Manuel Morales found the back of the net off an assist from Nickolas Pagan. Old Westbury responded late in the first half, as Alexander Jorgensen scored in the 43rd minute off a pass from Johan Gran to send the game into halftime tied at 1-1.
The Panthers continued to pressure in the second half, recording eight shots after halftime and earning two corner kicks. Goalkeeper Andy Chacho kept Old Westbury within reach throughout the contest, making seven saves on the evening.
With the match appearing headed toward a draw, Manhattanville's Alec Pineda scored in the 85th minute to give the Valiants a 2-1 advantage. Old Westbury had several opportunities in the closing minutes but could not find the equalizer.
Panthers are back in action at home on Saturday September 26 at 1 PM vsn University of Mount Saint Vincent.
