Charles Coleman enters his second season with SUNY Old Westbury assistant men’s basketball coach in 2019-20. 

 “I am excited to join a coaching staff at an established NCAA Division III program,” said Coleman.   

 Coleman brings coaching experience from various levels of competition to Old Westbury.  From 1999-2004, Coleman served as head coach for the Jamaican National Olympic Basketball team.  He kicked off his collegiate coaching career with NCAA Division II Kentucky State University, where he helped the Thorobreds earn a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) 2000-01 Men’s Basketball Championship.  Coleman remained an integral part of Kentucky State until 2008.  He then led Correcaminos UAT Victoria as head coach of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional (LNBP) in Mexico from 2010-12.  From 2012-15, Coleman coached at the Division II level as an assistant at Bluefield State College before assisting at NJCAA Division I member ASA College (Brooklyn) for two seasons (2016-18).

“Coleman is a veteran who has spent a lot of time with professional players on all different levels,” said SUNY Old Westbury head men’s basketball coach Bernard Tomlin.  “Our student-athletes are excited because they have somebody who has been at professional tryouts.”  

The St. Albans, New York native attended East New York Vocational High School   before studying recreational leadership at Los Angeles Technical College, where he received a bachelor’s degree.
