Ed Krinsky enters his fifth season as assistant men’s basketball coach at SUNY Old Westbury.
Ed brought a wealth of experience to Old Westbury's sidelines upon his arrival for the 2011-12 season. His knowledge of scouting and coaching combined with experience in the Westbury Public Schools as a teacher; counselor an administrator remains a big piece to Tomlin's staff.
In just his second season on staff at Old Westbury, Krinsky was a member of a historic Panther team. Old Westbury set a program-best record with a 25-4 mark, won both the ECAC Metro Region Championship and Skyline Conference Regular Season Championship en route to being named D3Hoops.com Metro Region and Skyline Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
Krinsky served as an Advanced Scout in the NBA for three seasons with the Detroit Pistons (1976-78) and Houston Rockets (1978-79). His knack for recognizing talent landed him a role as Vice President and General Manager from 1991-95 with the Long Island Surf of the United States Basketball League (USBL). During his time as General Manager, seven Long Island Surf players, including Anthony Mason, Lloyd Daniels and Michael Curry, went on to play in the NBA. Following the 1995 season, Krinsky was named the Director of Operations of the USBL, a position he held through the 2007 season. He also coached internationally in Israel, Egypt and Soviet Union.
A two-sport athlete at Harvard, Krinsky earned letters in basketball and baseball. He was named basketball team captain during his senior year in 1954, helping the squad to their best record during his career. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Harvard in 1954 followed by a Master of Arts in Teaching from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1957. Following graduation from Harvard and two years in the U.S. Army, Ed coached junior varsity basketball at Harvard (1956-57) and coached freshman baseball at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1957).
He started his 35 year career in Education at Westbury High School, teaching History while coaching Basketball and Baseball. He served as the district's Director of Guidance for 20 years and was also the Co-Chairman of the Harvard Club of Long Island School and Scholarships Committee for a good number of those years. Krinsky registered a career record of 278-124 during his 20-year career as varsity basketball coach for Westbury High School. His teams won 12 Division Championships, 2 North Shore Championships and one Nassau County Championship during his tenure.
Krinsky also served as an Adjunct Professor of Sports Management at Adelphi University and Dowling College. From 1964-68, he was a scout for the Baltimore Orioles (MLB).
Krinsky lives in Bethpage, New York with his companion, Victoria Descalso. Their family consists of Victoria's son, Jason, Ed's daughters, June Krinsky-Rudder (Old Westbury Alumni) and Donna Romano and his grandchildren, Anna and "A.J.".
