Michael Carrera enters his second season as assistant men’s basketball coach at the SUNY College at Old Westbury.
In just his first season on staff at Old Westbury, Carrera was a member of a historic Panther team. Old Westbury set a program-best record with a 25-4 mark, won both the ECAC Metro Region Championship and Skyline Conference Regular Season Championship en route to being named D3Hoops.com Metro Region and Skyline Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
Carrera has also expanded his coaching horizons at since the conclusion of the 2012-13 season, making a name for himself at New York Knicks Basketball Camp, Harvard University Basketball Camp, Carmelo Anthony Basketball ProCamp, and Hoops Mountain Classic.
Prior to Old Westbury, Carrera spent the two years as a sports performance, strength and conditioning trainer and ventured into privately training basketball and lacrosse players.
In 2005, Carrera played international basketball in Holland as part of the People to People Sports Ambassador Programs.
He received a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications and Advertising with a minor in Public Relations from Lynn University in 2010.
Carrera holds certifications as a Certified Personal Trainer from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT) and is also a Certified Kettlebell Teacher Levels 1 and 2 from the International Kettlebell and Fitness Federation.
A native of Oyster Bay, New York, Carrera attended St. Dominic High School, where he was a four-sport athlete in baseball, basketball, cross country and lacrosse. As a senior, Carrera was named lacrosse’s team captain.
