Michael Taylor enters his second season at SUNY Old Westbury as assistant men’s basketball coach.

“I am thrilled to be a part of the institution and basketball program again,” said Taylor.  “Working with our student-athletes is an amazing opportunity and I look forward to coach, lead and mentor them every day.”

Taylor returns to a program for which he played for during the 1980-81 and 1981-82 seasons.

“I’m ecstatic to have him here,” said Old Westbury head men’s basketball coach Bernard Tomlin. “He played for Old Westbury and understands the culture of our program.”

Growing up in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, Taylor attended Franklin K. Lane High School, where he played four years on the varsity level.

From 2009-16, Taylor coached the Wellington Wolves of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he led the organization to a national championship in 2013.  Taylor also coached girls basketball for two seasons (2015-17) at Omni Middle School in Boca Raton, Florida.

Taylor studied organizational leadership and management at Palm Beach Atlantic University, where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 2012 and 2014, respectively.
