Former Niagara University standout Roy Beekman has been named an assistant men's basketball coach at SUNY College at Old Westbury in an announcement made by Panthers’ head coach Bernard Tomlin. 
Beekman joins the Panthers after five years as head coach with Hostos Community College.  Beekman spent a total of seven seasons on staff at Hostos Community College, with two of them serving as assistant coach prior to being named head coach for the 2006-07 season.  In 2005, Hostos Community College claimed the National Championship.    
He led Hostos Community College to CUNYAC Championships in 2006 and 2008 in addition to claimed the 2009 CUNYAC Regular Season Championship.  During the 2008 season, he was named NJCAA District 5 Coach of the Year after leading his team to a third place finish in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament.  Beekman got his start in college coaching in 2001 as an assistant coach at Long Island University-Brooklyn.   Prior to coaching at Long Island University-Brooklyn, Beekman served as an AAU coach for Kenny Smith's team, Aim High.     
Coach Beekman attended Mater Christi High School in Long Island City, New York, where he was named to the All-American and All-New York City teams.  He played his college ball at Niagara University and graduated with a degree in Sociology.
Beekman has worked as a Special Education Paraprofession for the Queens Occupations Training Center P.S. 721 since 1999.  He currently resides in Corona, New York
