Tommy McNicholas enters his second season as SUNY Old Westbury assistant men's soccer coach in 2017.
“I have a great passion for soccer and I am committed to supporting coach Corvetti’s vision to make SUNY Old Westbury’s men’s soccer program the best it can be,” said McNicholas.
Since 2004, McNicholas has served as head coach for Rockville Centre Soccer Club girls U-10 through U-17 as well as a boys U-8 through U-11. McNicholas’ girls team competed at all levels all the way up to the U.S. Soccer Region I Premier League. Since 2009, McNicholas has served as a board member for RVCSC and has been involved in numerous roles within the club since 1994.
“McNicholas brings knowledge and experience from his 40-plus years of playing and coaching to our sideline that will prove to be a difference maker in elevating Old Westbury men’s soccer,” said Corvetti.
McNicholas was recruited as a New York State top defender by legendary coaches Bob Dikranian and Ray Reid at Southern Connecticut State University in 1988. McNicholas suffered an unfortunate career-ending knee injury as a freshman before transferring to SUNY Albany.
Prior to attending Southern Connecticut State University (1988-89) and SUNY Albany (1989-92), McNicholas completed a decorated prep career at South Side High School in Rockville Centre, New York. McNicholas led South Side to back-to-back Nassau County Championships (1986-87) en route to being recognized as an all-county player during his senior season as a team captain. McNicholas also competed as a member of the Empire State Team, as well as multiple Select and State teams, in addition to a European tour to play the game he loves.
McNicholas currently resides in Rockville Centre, New York with his wife, Denice, and their three children, Alexandra, T.J., and Ryan.
