Anthony Vertuccio enters his first year on the SUNY Old Westbury coaching staff in 2019. Vertuccio started the season as assistant coach, and was elevated April 1, 2019 to interim head coach.
“It is an honor and a privilege to join the SUNY Old Westbury family,” said Vertuccio. “I look forward to assisting in elevating the Panther softball program to even greater heights.”
With over 15 years of coaching experience, Vertuccio spent the last two seasons (2017-18) at St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn), where he helped the Bears advance to their first-ever Skyline Conference Championship appearance in 2018. Vertuccio assisted in the development of five All-Skyline selections during his time at St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn).
Prior to his two-year stint at St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn), Vertuccio served as assistant varsity head softball coach of Harborfields High School, where he helped the Tornadoes to the playoffs for the first time in 14 years during the 2016 season. Residing in Sayville, New York, Vertuccio is also instructor and assistant coach with Long Island Sudden Impact Softball.
In the summer of 2015, Vertuccio took a team to Greece and Italy to help promote the sport of softball in Europe.
Vertuccio also has previous stops at Sayville High School, Fiorello LaGuardia High School, Great Neck South High School, St. Dominic High School and Hempstead High School. He helped Sayville to the Long Island Championship in 2003 and led LaGuardia to the playoffs for the first time in eight years in 2006.
In addition to coaching softball, Vertuccio also served as the boys' varsity bowling head coach at Rocky Point High School.
He received a bachelor’s of science in physical education from LIU Post in 2002 and a master’s in liberal arts and sciences from Stony Brook University in 2007.
Vertuccio and his wife, Jeanne, are proud parents to son, Vincent.
