Mike Bonsignore enters his first season as SUNY Old Westbury assistant softball coach in 2018. He arrives at Old Westbury after spending 2007-16 coaching varsity softball at Island Trees High School in Levittown, New York.
Bonsignore served as head coach from 2011-16, where he compiled a 107-47 record. He claimed Conference ABC 1 championships in 2012 and 2013, as well as advancing the Bulldogs to the Nassau County Class A finals three years in a row (2012-14). In 2013, Bonsignore posted a 19-7 record to guide Island Trees to a Nassau County Class A championship. Bonsignore was recognized for his achievements during the 2012 and 2013 seasons with Conference ABC 1 Coach of the Year honors. In just his first season at the helm, Bonsignore led Island Trees to the 2011 Nassau County Class A semifinals. From 2013-16, Bonsignore was a member of the Nassau County Softball Executive Board.
Prior to being elevated to the head coaching position in 2011, Bonsignore honed his skills as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs’ softball team from 2007-10, including serving as interim head coach in 2008. He led the junior varsity baseball team at Island Trees as head coach from 2003-05. Bonsignore also has experience coaching high school football for fifteen years and took over the reins for the Island Trees High School varsity team from 2008-2013.
Bonsignore attended Southern Connecticut State University from 1994-96 and was a member of the Owls' NCAA Division II baseball team from 1994-96. He then transferred to Towson University, where he graduated in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. In 2003, he earned a master’s degree in health education from Adelphi University, and in 2006, Bonsignore achieved a second master’s degree in school administration/supervision from Touro College.
Since 1999, Bonsignore has served as a physical education and health education teacher at Island Trees High School in Levittown, New York. Bonsignore, a graduate of Island Trees High School, resides in Massapequa Park, New York, with his wife, Danielle, and two children, Tyler and Makayla.
