Bryant Lassiter joined the SUNY Old Westbury Athletics program as the head women’s basketball coach for the 2021-22 season.
In his first year as head coach, Lassiter’s team finished the season with an 8-14 overall record, and 7-13 in the Skyline Conference. Under his lead, junior forward Ja’nya Flash finished the season as the NCAA Division III Statistical Champion in rebounds per game with 14.7. Lassiter also had one member of the team voted to Skyline First Team All-Conference, and one member of the Skyline All-Sportsmanship Team.
Prior to his arrival at Old Westbury, Lassiter most recently was the women’s basketball assistant coach at NCAA Division II New York Institute of Technology from 2016-2020. The Bears made the conference championship game all four seasons, and were named ECC Champions in 2019; the team made if to the NCAA Tournament in 2017 and 2019. During his time at NYIT, Lassiter helped coach players that were named Rookie of the Year, First Team All-Conference (4), Second Team All-Conference (3), Third Team All-Conference (3), First Team All-Metropolitan (3), and Second Team All-Metropolitan (3). Before he joined the women’s staff at NYIT, Lassiter was the men’s basketball assistant coach from 2014-2016.
Lassiter played four years of college basketball at New York Institute of Technology, where is still holds the program’s All-Time Leading Scorer Record with 1,913 points. He is ranked #2 in NYIT program records in steals, free-throw percentage, and 3-point field goals, and is #5 in assists. With the Bears, Lassiter has been named to ECC First Team All-Conference, Second Team All-Conference, as well as First Team All-MBWA and Second Team All-MBWA.
After his collegiate experience, Lassiter played briefly with the Harlem Globetrotters, and also played professionally in Puerto Rico and Ecuador.
Lassiter graduated from New York Institute of Technology with a degree in Business Management, and earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Sports Management from Grand Canyon University.
Lassiter has a 2 year-old son Jayson with his wife Kelly, and a baby girl on the way expected in January.
