Joe Gugliero enters his first season (fifth overall) as SUNY Old Westbury assistant women's basketball coach in 2019-20. Gugliero returned to the Panthers' sidelines after last coaching in Old Westbury during the 2006-07 season.
Gugliero got his start in the collegiate ranks as Old Westbury's head coach for two seasons (2000-02). Following his first stint at Old Westbury, he served as a Division II assistant coach at Adelphi University, where he helped guide the women's team to a berth in the 2003 ECAC Tournament. Gugliero then returned to Old Westbury for the 2005-06 season to serve as Krasnoff's assistant for two seasons (2005-07).
Gugliero's experience expands beyond collegiate athletics, as he has had great success at the High School and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) levels as well. He served five seasons (2007-12) as assistant girls varsity coach at St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School. During those five seasons, the program captured Nassau Suffolk Catholic High School Athletic Association (NSCHSAA) championships during the 2007-08 and 2009-10 seasons, the New York State Catholic High School Athletic Association (NYSCHSAA) championship in 2007-08, and finished second at the New York State Federation of Champions in 2007-08. Coaching on the AAU circuit from 1996-00, Gugliero led the Long Island Silver Bullets to the 1998 Metro New York Regional Championship en route to advancing to the AAU Nationals in Orlando, Florida. Gugliero also spent the 1996-97 and 1999-2000 seasons coaching both the boy's and girl's basketball teams at Kellenberg Memorial High School.
Since 1992, Gugliero has worked for the MTA Bridges and Tunnels, where he currently holds the title of Director of Tolling Systems. The Brooklyn, New York native attended Sheepshead Bay High School before graduating from SUNY Cortland in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in Economics.
Residing in Massapequa, New York, Gugliero and his wife, Teri, are parents to three, and grandparents to two.
