Sharia Marcus-Carter enters her third season with the Panthers where she will assume recruiting and scouting duties as well as playing an active role in all on-court aspects of the program. Coach Marcus-Carter arrived at Old Westbury from Clinton Junior College (South Carolina) where she was an assistant coach for the women's basketball team. During her tenure at Clinton, she helped guide the team to a school record for most wins in a season while appearing in the conference semi-finals for the first time. In addition to functioning as Clinton's lead recruiter, Coach Marcus-Carter was a key architect in the design of the team's offensive and defensive schemes and played a particularly strong role in the development of the team's perimeter players.
Coach Marcus-Carter has worked extensively in the development of younger players while coaching AAU basketball for the Long Island Silver Bullets Basketball Club and working the Rutgers University Basketball Camps under C. Vivian Stringer, where she honed her impressive teaching skills.
Coach Marcus-Carter played 2 years of collegiate basketball at Division II Dowling College before moving on and ending her career at NYACK College.
A 1999 graduate of Baldwin High School, Coach Marcus-Carter was a 3 time team captain, team MVP and All-County selection. Coach Marcus-Carter also garnered a spot on Newsday's All-Long Island team, earning recognition as one of the top players on Long Island. Coach Marcus-Carter's proudest accomplishment as a player occurred during her senior year of high school when she led Baldwin High to its first league title in 30 years. During that season Coach Marcus-Carter led her team in points, steals and assists and recorded a career best 14 assists in one game during the team's playoff run.
Coach Marcus-Carter brings discipline, diligence, and a defensive mindset to the program. A native of Baldwin, New York, Coach Marcus currently resides in Roslyn Heights.
