The former three-time All-Greater Northeast Athletic Conference selection Tom McCaffrey, has been named Old Westbury's assistant women’s volleyball coach.  

McCaffrey, a 2012 graduate from Emmanuel College with a bachelor’s degree in management, joins first-year head coach Melinda DiGiovanna to lead a young group of Panthers into the 2014 campaign.

“I am extremely excited to have Tom join our team at Old Westbury,” said DiGiovanna.  “After learning of his successful playing career at Emmanuel College and coaching with him at Sportime VBC, I know his drive and dedication will be valuable for our student-athletes experience. His vast knowledge of the game and confidence will make for an easy transition into coaching at the collegiate level and do nothing but strengthen our program.”

In three seasons at Emmanuel, McCaffrey led the team each year in blocks and concluded his career as the programs career leader in total blocks (337) and block assists (246) while rankings amongst Emmanuel’s finest in solo blocks (91,3rd), kills (557, 9th), attacking percentage (.338, 2nd), points (800, 9th), points per set (2.54, 10th), matches played (98, 8th) and sets played (315, 10th). 

As a senior, McCaffrey led the Saints to the GNAC championship game as he ranked 24th in the nation in blocks per set (0.91).  As a junior, McCaffrey, ranked third in the nation with a rate of 1.29 blocks per set while setting a program record for solo blocks in a season (52), assisted blocks in a season (102) and total blocks in a season (154).  He also tied the program record for assisted blocks in a match (10) as a junior and helped lead Emmanuel to their second consecutive program-record for wins in a season with 28-9 campaign. 

As a sophomore, McCaffrey registered 0.95 blocks per set to rank 27th in the nation and was selected to the All-GNAC Tournament Team.  McCaffrey guided Emmanuel to a 72-32 record during his time in Boston, Massachusetts.      

A native of Massapequa, New York, McCaffrey graduated from Plainedge High School in 2007.
