NEWBURGH, NY (www.oldwestburypanthers.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's and women's cross country squads were in fast company on Saturday afternoon when they placed 18th and 14th, respectively, at the Mount Saint Mary College Blue Knight Invitational at Chadwick Lake Park.
On the men's side, senior Kenneth King (Westbury, NY) finished first for the Panthers, clocking a 35:01.39 on the course to place 73rd in the field of 149 runners. Junior Rudy Lys (White Plains, NY) came in second at 42:14.09 (103rd place) while classmate Nicholas Perdomo (Hempstead, NY) finished at 42:18.44 (104th place). Freshman TaQuan Gray (Yonkers, NY) took fourth at 53:39.94 (147th place). Rounding out for the Panthers was sophomore Josh Wooten (Jamaica, NY) with a time of 59:12.76 (148th place).
Molloy College won the team competition as graduate Matthew Walsh (Wantagh, NY) claimed first place in the individual competition for the Lions.
Senior Krystal Garner (Staten Island, NY) continues to be impressive for Old Westbury. She paced the women's squad, placing 75th with a time of 27:08.41 on the course. Sophomore Angela Dixon (Bronx, NY) and junior Carissa Ellis (Brooklyn, NY) finished bacl-to-back at 84th and 85th. Freshman Melissa Spleen (Hempstead, NY) and senior Avery Josey (Staten Island, NY) rounded out the top five runners for Old Westbury with a 91st and 94th place finish, respectively.
Union College captured the team title, edging Bard College. Pace freshman Brianna Cano (Franklin Square, NY) took top individual honors, finishing first in 21:09.44.
The men's and women's cross country team will next run at the Hunter Invitational. The event will be held at Van Cortland State Park in the Bronx, New York on Sunday, October 18.
